About Afore

The Editors.

Afore is written by editors who live in or return to the places we cover. We do not run press trips, we do not accept comped stays, and we do not pretend to know places we have not visited. When you read a review here, you can assume the writer has actually been — usually more than once.

Editorial standards

How we work.

We pay our own way.

Afore does not run press trips and does not accept comped stays or meals in exchange for editorial coverage. When a review names a hotel or restaurant, our editor visited at full rate — usually more than once over time.

We only write about places we’ve been.

Every Le Journal article is first-person editorial from an editor who has actually been to the place. When we flag a place we have not yet visited (rare; usually a new opening in a village we know well), we say so explicitly.

We correct in public.

If we get something wrong — a closed restaurant, a renovated room, a moved address — we update the article in place and note the change. The canonical URL never changes.

We write for the long shelf life.

We avoid timely hot takes in favour of pieces that hold up three to five years from now. Library guides are updated annually; Le Journal lands every other Sunday.
